New Self-Published eBooks: August 14-20

Hey again, happy Saturday my book lovers 🙂

I just spent the day brunching and birthday-partying it up for an adorable one-year old, and as much as my aesthetic screams “vampire,” seeing the sun and some great people really made the day into something super special. (And of course, I lathered on that sunscreen lol)

Do any of you guys find that certain interests in different mediums seriously affect your interest in other types of art/ entertainment? For example, my boyfriend and I binged watched Stranger Things on HBO, which just so happened to coincide with my attempt to tackle Stephen King’s The Stand (this has been a bit of a fail lol), but I’ve been hungering for more 80s nostalgia reading, shows, and music. I think it actually began a couple of weeks before Stranger Things when I watched almost all of Molly Ringwald’s movies in a weekend… I think I have a bit of an obsession lol

I’m curious, have you guys watched the show? Or have any reading suggestions to give to kind of go with that whole vibe? I just started Something Wicked This Way Comes by Ray Bradbury, and I have to admit I am looooving it. So far, it’s exactly what I was looking for in a story- compassionate, emotional, and just starting in on some Halloween spookiness for that essential paranormal edge.

I would love to hear what you guys have to recommend! Here’s this week’s list of upcoming publications, I hope you find something great to read 🙂

New Self-Published eBooks: July 31- August 6

Hey, everyone!

Happy Harry Potter book release day! (And Happy Birthday, Harry!)

I went with a friend to Barnes and Noble and snatched up my copy of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child today and haven’t really come up for air since I got it. I’m on the final act and am trying to take a moment to breath and eat dinner lol

How about you guys? Have you been lucky enough to have time to get the book today? I feel like a kid again- just reading through the book in a single sitting while it rains and pours outside and the house is quiet with naps and the sound of the Harry Potter movie marathon in the background (I mean… it’s only fitting lol). Jay is under the weather, poor guy, so I’ve gotten him some medicine and he’s just sleeping the day away with the little kitties.

And good news, too, on the furball front! They’re basically inseparable now and I’ve even caught Mr. Meow cleaning Taco multiple times over the past two days. We have little cat trees that they like to sit on next to each other and watch the squirrels outside- it’s an amazing change from what it was a month and a half ago. We finally feel comfortable keeping them out all day together, but we still separate them while we are off at work or out of the house. They tend to get into tussles… Meow doesn’t know how to play yet lol

Well… I must admit… I really want to get back to reading The Cursed Child, so I am going to end this post a little bit short 🙂 I have an awesome TBR post coming up for you guys on Tuesday- I can’t wait to show you guys what books I have in store for August. I’ve gotten some fantastic suggestions that I want to review for you guys and genuinely can’t wait to get to reading them!

Here’s this week’s upcoming publications! Read on, my happy HP friends 🙂 Let me know how far you are in the book! Or do you plan on getting it? The whole screenplay format is a bit uncommon and I’m curious if you guys like the idea/like how it reads/have read any screenplays before.

Talk to you all soon!!!

Hey friends!

I have a confession to make. I’m a huge horror fan, and I’ve never, until today, seen The Blair Witch Project

I am a huge fan of modern, classic, trashy, humorous, speculative, myth-based horror and haven’t even thought of this movie until my bf brought it up. I can’t BELIEVE what I was missing!

It was a total 90s throwback, and after growing up in Massachusetts in the middle of nowhere I couldn’t help but wish I had seen this when I was a teen. Instead of fan girling, I would have been scared out of my pants.

I’m on a total wilderness horror kick, too, which can be seen in the books I’m reading, stories I’m writing, and movies (apparently) I’m watching. I’ve been looking up a ton of localized mythology, too, like Scandinavian forest ghasts. Do you guys find this kind of genre scary? I know some people think it’s slow, but that’s the kind of terror that really appeals to your instincts 🌳🌔

There aren’t that many horror novels on this weeks list of new releases, but there are some good debut novels that have recently come out in-store. Let me know if you’re interested in hearing about the ones I’ve found!

Here we go 😊

New Self-Published eBooks: July 17-23

Happy Sunday, everyone!

I hope you all had a fantastic weekend- I spent mine picking blueberries, writing, cleaning (ugh), and watching as the two kittehs become friends.

So, they’re almost there, which means our lives are almost back to normal, but it’s honestly the most hilarious thing watching them try to play together. Both want to spend time with the other, but dang does our older furball know nothing about being a cat. Pouncing? What is this nonsense? I can practically hear him thinking when the new guy leaps like a gazelle. And then they go running and hide from each other to play some more.

It’s not perfect, because it still devolves into hurt feelings after a while, but it’s definitely getting there.

I’m continuing with my story about the dream catchers, too, but I don’t really have much of an end goal. I have a plot, but how does it end? Usually I know how a story ends, but I feel like I’m approaching this universe as if it were a short story… but I definitely want to make it into something longer and more intricate.

I’m reading a couple more books right now and have an awesome book review planned this coming week- I love reading self-published books, and I really hope you guys are enjoying the self-published ebook reviews. It’s really fun for me to review, and I love getting the word out about these new authors. What kind of genres would you guys like me pursue? I have a lot of scifi in the works, but if I can get my hands on some fantasy and horror, would you guys be interested?

Here’s this weeks self-pubbed ebooks for your reading pleasure!

Until next time!

Hey everybody!

How’s your summer going? Do you guys ever find yourself struck by an idea that you can’t shake and you just daydream about it for days? I’m stuck in this little world in my head that I’ve been dreaming of since Wednesday… it’s not a particularly pleasant world (boy do I love me some horror!), and even though I can’t seem to get a story out of it, I’m absolutely loving it!

I keep getting glimpses of dreamcatchers and sleep demons… though they aren’t at all typical. If you’re thinking Freddy Kruger, I wish I could come up with a villain like him lol but instead all I got is this morphing shadow shape and glowing webs of dreamcatchers.

Maybe there’s a story in there? I hope so, because it’s really really interesting to me!

Has this ever happened to you guys? Where you just get stuck in some strange world and kind of spend your time daydreaming there? Have you managed to write stories out of these worlds? Let me know!

Here is this week’s self-pubbed eBooks coming up ☺️ I hope you guys enjoy! And keep daydreaming!

Self-Published eBooks: June 12-18

Hey everybody!

How’s your weekend going? It’s a bit funny that I realized I had been subconsciously looking up more and more writers advice recently. It wasn’t out of necessity, but more curiosity. And you know what? Everyone has contradicting advice! One author says “write what you know” and another says “never stop imagining.” Isn’t it funny? It just goes to show every writer has a different approach and there’s no one right way.

Do you guys have a favorite piece of advice? Something that works best for you?

I’d love to hear!

Self-published eBooks: May 29- June 4

Hey everybody! Happy Memorial Day weekend!

I’ve spent my free hours catching up with some of the best of friends, gardening, and reading by a river. I mean, gardening so  bit of a loose term, but there’s something satisfying about getting dirt under your fingernails and watching the soil soak up water. Do any of you balance your reading with other hobbies like that? Or have any gardening tips? Because these plants are the mercy of my green fingertips 🌱🍅🍋

Here’s this coming weeks self-published eBooks! There are some very interesting fantasy books listed here. I kind of amended the qualifications to make this list, all of those can be found on the Work With Me page. Let me know if you have a book being released and want to ensure its inclusion here 🙂

Self-Published eBook Review: The Blue Ridge Project by Neil Rochford

Hello avid readers!

I have here a self-published eBook review for your perusing pleasure! The Blue Ridge Project is a thrilling crime novel written by Neil Rochford, and follows the intense and mysterious happenings of two characters who become caught in a web of tricky lies and vices. It is a very good story, and I think a lot of us who enjoy mystery novels would find this incredibly enticing. Read on for a more detailed review of Rochford’s latest novel, and let me know if this is a sort of book you’d find interesting!

This review is spoiler-free. The Blue Ridge Project was given to me by the author in exchange for an honest review.

Title: The Blue Ridge Project

Author: Neil Rochford

Length: 230 pages

Platform: Kindle

Synopsis: The Blue Ridge Project follows three distinct point of views: Detective Andrea Nox, civilian Robert Duncan, and affluent Francis (Frank) Mortimer, whose lives converge on a harrowing path of dark deeds and hidden desires.

Andrea is a newly appointed Detective on the Beacon City police force, and after losing her last partner in a devastating job assignment, she is partnered with an unfamiliar officer. As soon as the reassignment is instated, strange murders and suicides come out of the woodwork, puzzling the force and throwing Nox off of her usual astute game.

Robert, meanwhile, is forced to deal with the deteriorating state of his personal and professional life until a strange lead allows him to believe that maybe, just somehow, he can do good in this world and redeem himself once again. All the while, Frank Mortimer, disturbed and sociopathically charming, flies under the radar and begins to allow his horrific actions to leak out and touch the lives of innocent people. Robert and Andrea find themselves caught in Frank’s mess, and their paths converge in a life or death situation in which only they have the answers and ability to survive.

Impression: Rochford writes dark suspense in a jaw-dropping, enticing style. The novel is a quick read and is incredibly hooking- it was hard to stop reading this story, especially when the characters are so beautifully flawed and the mystery so tantalizing.

Andrea is one of the few characters I’ve read that appeared so put together and intelligent on the surface, but acted in such disparaging, angry outbursts that I couldn’t help but be drawn in by the mess that is her life. I felt a bit guilty of being so enthralled by her actions, because I knew there would be something wild and reckless to come next, but never was it written in a contrived or cardboard cutout kind of a way. Her intelligence is obvious (that’s why she’s on the police force), but her issues are complicated and chaotic and made her an incredible character.

I also truly enjoyed Robert, who is probably the opposite of Andrea in every way. Cautious, self-degrading, but not pitiful, Robert is a wise and caring character who makes his way through the book passively but without coincidence. Rochford’s artful dynamic made the two point of views so intriguing and genuinely made the reader look forward to each alternating scene.

The mystery plot was well written, but there were a few parts in which I wished the characters allowed more dialogue to conclude an especially important conflict. I also thought the resolution of some scenes were a little too easy. I wanted the characters to have to fight harder or use their intelligence to turn a conversation rather than just violence. However, this is merely the first novel (out of three, I believe), so maybe Rochford will use that kind of a transition as a character arc/character growth.

I give this novel 4/5 feather pens because of its amazing characters, its great pacing, and its easily resolved plotline. I wish Rochford had made the roadblocks a bit more difficult for the characters and had made the characters more proactive (it seemed like a lot of coincidence drove them to the conclusion), but Andrea and Robert are truly well-written characters and have a ton of potential for growth and leading the plot through the next couple of books.

For fans of character-driven novels and fantastical mystery stories with some dark, mature tones woven in, I would definitely suggest this book!
